Beyoncé Knowles-carter, also known as THE QUEEN has made history at Coachella, becoming the first black woman to headline the music festival.

In 2017, Beyoncé announced she had to cancel her Coachella spot at the last minute as she was pregnant with twins at the time. Lady Gaga stepped in as her replacement.

Beginning her performance shortly after 11 PM, Beyfertiti opened the stage dressed like Nefertiti in a stunning custom Balmain number with a marching band rendition of Crazy in love. She then transitioned into “Freedom”, “Formation” and “Sorry” from her 2016 album Lemonade. During “Sorry,” she mixed in verses from  “Me, Myself and I” and “Kitty Kat”.

Destiny’s Child reunited for a spectacular moment, delighting fans all over the world, performing Lose My Breath, Say My Name and Soldier. Destiny’s Child last performed together during the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show.
The King, Jay Z also joined her for a rendition of “Deja Vu” and her sister Solange joined her for a dance on stage, then Beyonce took to the runway for “Single Ladies”. “Who Run The World (Girls)” was a powerful salute to feminism where Beyonce recognized every woman present and acknowledged those who had paved the way for her.

It was one surprise after another in the 2 Hour performance, as Beyonce covered Dawn Penn’s “You Don’t Love Me“; Nina Simone’s “Lilac Wine”; and had her band incorporate Fela Kuti’s “Zombie” and Juvenile’s “Back That Azz up”.  There were also quotes from Chimamanda Ngozi-Adichie and Malcolm X.

Before rounding off her performance with Love on Top, Beyonce thanked the crowd, saying “I just want to thank you guys. I’m so happy that I’m here. I was supposed to perform at Coachella before but, I ended up getting pregnant, thank God. So I had time to dream and dream and dream with two beautiful souls in my belly and I dreamt up this performance and this is everything and more than I dreamt of it being.”

Beyonce is a QUEEN, she puts in so much hard work and dedication and it is evident in everything that she does. But THIS, this was everything and a new bar was set. It was beyond amazing, what a privilege to behold this spectacular performance.
