H&M RELEASES ‘CLOSE TO MY HEART’ BRA COLLECTION, CUSTOM-MADE FOR BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS  

Autumn has fully arrived but pink seems to be the color of the season and we’re unbothered because it’s for a worthy cause. October also happens to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its causes and viable prevention methods. Several campaigns by various organizations have gone underway since the month began and indeed so far, this month has been one of mutual encouragement, support and care for women fighting Cancer all around the world. Swedish multinational and clothing-retail giants, H & M have gone a step further to creatively give their support to Cancer survivors with a beautiful and thoughtful bra collection, specifically designed to meet the needs of women who have had a single or double mastectomy. The Close to My Heart collection was inspired by an H&M staff member and breast cancer survivor who struggled to find bras that were functional yet still fashionable. The collection currently includes a basic bra, a lace bra and a front-closure sports bra.

 

 

Released just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the collection does not appear to be very different from conventional lingerie, but the items were said to have been designed with breast cancer survivors’ comfort in mind.

“The differences between an ordinary bra and these is that they cover more of the breast and that it has pockets for the prostheses. The pockets are made in a mesh quality for extra support of the prostheses.” H & M reported. The bras which range in size from 32A to 38D and come in neutral colors, can also be worn by women who haven’t had a mastectomy. They would simply wear them without inserting the prosthetics as the bras come with mesh pockets. With just another gesture of goodwill by H&M, inclusivity in fashion has become the new normal. Every woman can feel beautiful, accepted and valued which in turn will  doubtless reap great rewards for the world.

 

H&M‘s Close to My Heart Collection is only available online for the moment, and a hundred percent of proceeds from sales will go directly to the American Cancer Society in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
