The major inspiration for Spring Summer 2019 Collection is the Lagos babe – Sisi Eko.

Whether she is purposefully hopping on a bus, delicately balancing a tray of goods on her head, or daintily stepping out of chauffeur driven cars with red soled heels, the Lagos woman continues to be Kiki Kamanu’s muse. She reflects on the vibrant, irrepressible energy that is Sisi Eko, and the environment that she exists in – Isaale Eko. The Lagos woman stands out as a confident, stylish global citizen, making her distinct mark on the world.

Kiki Kamanu’s SS19 collection includes an interesting range of colours, from burnt orange, to bright yellow (which the designer refers to as her happy yellow), to metallic bronze and charcoal black.

More than showcase outfits, Kamanu also makes bold statements, like with a Black Sweatshirt, where she writes “Something different from Lagos” or another white Shirt where she says “Take what you need” and the bottom of the shirt has options, like tickets, saying “Love, Sex, Revenge, God’s Grace, Faith, Pity, Peace and Sushi”

The designer also draws inspiration from New York where she began her design career. She aims to continue the conversation on sexuality and the evolving gender norms. By dressing a male model in a bright red sun dress with a Net top, she asks the question – What makes an outfit masculine or feminine by itself?

Ultimately, Kiki Kamanu presents a collection that dares us to be bold and to think outside the box. She tells us that there is a Lagos babe is all of us, irrespective of our gender.

Kamanu is totally bad ass, finishing off her presentation with 2 dancers who entertain the audience as she walks out spotting electric blue hair and an even more bad ass look.
