Award-winning actress and activist Angelina Jolie has added another feather to her impressive cap as she has just been named a contributing editor for Time magazine.

Jolie’s new position was announced by Time‘s Editor-in-Chief and CEO, Edward Felsenthal on June 19. Each month, she will write on subject matters such as displacement and human rights. She has written an essay on the role of women in the peace negotiations in Afghanistan. Her work will appear on the magazine’s global platforms.

Having been involved in 60 field missions to refugee camps, Jolie’s first article in her newly appointed role sees her discuss what we owe refugees in the world today. Published on World Refugee Day, she poses the questions: “Why then has the word refugee acquired such negative connotations in our times? Why are politicians being elected on promises to shut borders and turn back refugees?” After going into extensive detail about her work for the UN, she calls for “leadership and effective diplomacy” going forward.
