PRIYANKA CHOPRA IS REDEFINING BEAUTY FOR ALLURE’S FIRST DIGITAL EDITION

Priyanka Chopra, star of ABC’s Quantico was first introduced to the limelight as Miss India, and then Miss World. Talking to Samhita Mukhopadhyay of Allure Magazine, Chopra talks about contesting in a Beauty pageant, pageants today and modern day beauty standards.

Priyanka believes that beauty standards these days are expanding. However, there is a lot more work to be done. She says “You see so many women, different sizes, modelling, acting, taking their strength, but it’s the mindset that needs to change, of society, of men, of people — that view where a woman in a plus size should not be a check in the box. Or a woman of colour should not be a check in the box. Or a woman shouldn’t be a check in the box.”

She closes the interview, saying “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. And everyone doesn’t look the same way, so the world needs to be trained to see beauty differently.”

Priyanka Chopra is working on her book, Unfinished which is a collection of personal essays, stories, and observations. She shared the first image for the book with her followers on Instagram on June 19, 2018, saying, “The feeling of checking something off your ‘bucket list’ gives you an indescribable sense of accomplishment…and that’s where I am in this moment. I’ve always wanted to write a book, but the timing never felt right. With each opportunity that presented itself, my first instinct was always to wait…because I wasn’t (and I’m still not) finished. I wanted to do more, live more, and achieve more, before putting pen to paper and exposing things I’ve always kept private to the world. But looking back on my life as a public person, I’m super proud of what I’ve done and where my life is right now. I’ve realized you don’t have to be finished to tell your story, and that sometimes life’s greatest lessons are taught along the ride…when you’re still figuring things out…when you’re #unfinished.”

Unfinished will be published by Random House and will be released in 2019.
