Supermodel Naomi Campbell to Receive The BFC’s fashion Icon Award Later this Year

With decades of experience and accolades under her belt in the global fashion industry. The British Fashion Council has announced that the 2019 Fashion Icon Award will be going to no other but the prolific and ageless British model Naomi Campbell for her outstanding contributions to the fashion industry and charitable endeavors around the globe. Responding to the announcement, the supermodel took to her Instagram page to celebrate

“I am so thrilled and honored to be receiving the Fashion Icon Award on December 2nd at The Fashion Awards 2019 in London.  After 30+ years of working in the fashion industry and learning it from all different perspectives, to traveling the world and finding my life’s purpose in activism, it is so special for me to be back in London to receive such an incredible acknowledgment for my life’s work. Thank you to every single person who has been a part of my journey since day one. And to the @britishfashioncouncil, thank you for this honor.  I can’t wait to see you again in December, London ♥️ 🇬🇧🇯🇲#FashionAwards #BRIXTONBABY” She wrote.

South London-born Ms. Campbell was scouted in Covent Garden in 1986 and through the years has appeared on the covers of more than 400 magazines and in ad campaigns for luxury brands like Chanel, Prada and Louis Vuitton and many more.

Recornised as the black model with many firsts in the industry, Naomi has been an advocate for diversity in the fashion industry. During an interview with BBC Newsnight, she did not mince words when she said  “To see more than one woman of colour on magazine cover is a big deal, but it really shouldn’t be, It’s not a trend.”

Her philanthropic endeavours among many others  include fund raising to help people affected by the floods in the UK in 2007 -Fashion for Relief – A project that has since raised millions for causes that include the Haiti earthquake and Hurricane Katrina. In recent times she’s been seen headlining the Forbes Woman Africa’s Leading Women Summit as well as co-producing Arise Fashion Week in Lagos, Nigeria.

The award which will be taking place on  2, December 2019 at the  famous Royal Albert’s Hall London, will see the creme de la creme of the fashion and entertainment industry turn out in their fashionable drones.
