The Beauty & Strength in Diversity using Fashion – A piece by Metrogypsie

The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along. the dimensions of race or other ideologies.

While diversity is often a term used to refer specifically to cultural differences, diversity applies to all the qualities that make people different. Inclusion is the deliberate act of welcoming diversity and creating an environment where all different kinds of people can thrive and succeed. Diversity is what you have. Inclusion is what you do.

In a bid to explain diversity and inclusion in my immediate surrounding (geographically and electronically), I decided to hit up some girls to further explore using fashion & style.
I chose 9 different style themes and matched them to these 9 ladies from various sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, ethnicity and socio-economic status. I was going to photograph each style theme with them.

I would share some lessons learned from my 10-girl inclusive style task

1. You communicate and influence people differently. What works for one might not work for the other. 2. Some people make life easier. 3. A few see competition in everything. 4. One must read between the lines. 5. Finally, there is beauty in diversity.
